在苗栗通霄家旁有一處廢墟,80年代要整合通霄的菜市場所新建的三層樓建築,整個商場內部分區分格供攤販擺設的攤位,有地上兩層與地下一層,目測共約可容納112個攤位。
然而攤商們有感租金過高,進駐意願低,這棟建築從未啟用就直接成了閒置空間。任何人都可以隨意進出,周圍住民們堆放物品的地方。唯一有經營的是二樓空間-卡拉OK店,進出了許多陪酒小姐、酒客,成為了在住宅區生存的聲色場所,但在一場火災後也就結束營業。 地下樓層的積水成了池塘,曾看過不可得知的魚群,整個廢墟成為了生態系統。對我而言這個奇幻又詭譎的鄉鎮邊界,多年後的今天,成為植物恣意生長的自由空間,是一個充滿回憶的空間同時又夾帶矛盾情感,整棟建築代表了80年代政治經濟詭譎又猥廢的軀體,希望它有所改善又希望它可以回歸自然。 在錄像裡運算的程式碼在攤位上移動,像是某種更高權力的宰制,運行內容是將陰視為0,陽視為1,可形成八卦中的六十四個掛象,作為命運或插入的內部運算,彷彿末日後被發現的仍在運行的無機生命體。探勘車在在地下室彷彿探索著未知的星球,在期間來回不止的搜索或耗盡,作品延伸至停止營運的海水浴場以及在海灘一旁的火力發電廠,也是無人卻仍在運行中的象徵,而地下室的污水也連結延伸至大海為想像中的出口。 「七段顯示器」己經是承載數字或文字的解構,我將它再次解構,回到筆劃本身的單位再將其排列,並裝上馬達,使用程式讓旋轉像是自然的風動的。彩色壓克力筆劃像是屬於城市外部林立的招牌,是可見的、色彩愉悅的、可見供人觀賞,公共的討喜的狀態。淺意識內部重新編程的宣傳(基礎/正常)程序,美麗的幻象。 外部對應著內部廢墟身體的場域,視為醜陋避免直視,在生活視野中卻自行刪除(取消)或是幻見惡鬼的參照與痼疾。看似歹托邦未來的聚焦投射,存在於當下,也作為一種未來現實。過去80年代所遺留下來的建築身體,在這裡一個時空敘事,多維交互的動態,原因與結果兩者作為整體模型的一部分同時存在。我只想避免「插入式美好表象」之歹托邦那樣的未來。 Next to Chang’s home in Tongsiao, Miaoli, is a ruin that used to be the site for a building that was originally intended for gathering all the wet markets of Tongsiao during the 80s. The interior of the building is separated into stalls for vendors and consists of two floors. Based on visual estimation, the building was capable of accommodating 112 stalls. The artist’s grandmother also bought a stall. However, vendors were no longer willing to be stationed within the building due to high rent caused by flooding and shortage in funding; as a result, the building was abandoned before opening. The only stall that was open to business was a karaoke store on the second floor, and it became a site for drinkers and female escorts, transforming the site into a red-light zone. However, all this disappeared after a fire, this time really turning the place into ruins. For Chang, the building is filled with strangeness and eccentricity. The remoteness of the building and its turbulent fate transformed the site into an independent ecology, a space where greenery roamed free, while the underground floor became a pond, a dwelling place for undefinable fish, swimming between the stalls. Calculation codes move above the stalls, resembling a higher power that governs the economic system of consumerism. Situated on the two sides of the building are residential houses, making the building resemble an inorganic life form that continues to operate amid the ruins of doomsday. The entire building is a manifestation of the eerie and obsolete economy of the 80s.
